HIRING CORNERSTONE LEGAL PLLC
Why should I choose Cornerstone Legal PLLC? Cornerstone Legal is dedicated to making the legal process understandable, accessible, and affordable. We strive to ensure the community has access to top notch legal information and services, solidifying local stability for generations to come. Everyone needs an attorney in their corner watching their back, make us yours.
How much do your services cost? At Cornerstone Legal PLLC, we believe in fee transparency and tailoring our billing to fit the specific needs of your estate. We primarily utilize two types of fee structures; Flat & Hourly. You will be informed up front which style your case requires and either an exact, or close estimate, of how much your case will cost.
What type of cases do you take? Our firm handles several styles of cases within the Probate and Estate Planning umbrella; including estate litigation, estate planning reviews, trust drafting, trust funding, and both trust and probate administration.
Who will be handling my case? At Cornerstone Legal PLLC, you receive the direct attention of our Managing Partner, who serves as your primary point of contact and personally handles our communications—often answering the phone himself to ensure your questions are addressed by an experienced specialist from the start. While he leads the strategy and oversight of your file, he collaborates closely with our small, dedicated team of local attorneys and trusted community partners to move your case forward. This boutique, team-based approach ensures that your estate plan is not only handled with executive-level care but is also completed smoothly, expediently, and with the full support of a professional network that understands our local community.
What if I'm not sure I have a valid case? If you are unsure whether you need an estate planning attorney or have a valid legal matter, the best first step is to contact our office for a brief preliminary discussion. While the Washington State Bar prevents us from providing specific legal advice to non-clients, a quick call allows our team to evaluate your situation and determine if our services are the right fit for your needs. If your circumstances require deeper analysis, we can move forward by scheduling a formal legal consultation, where you will receive actionable advice and a clear strategy. This initial touchpoint ensures you get professional feedback on your situation without the guesswork, helping you decide with confidence whether to pursue further legal action.
Do I really need an attorney? We offer multiple forms in our online shop that can be used to complete legal processes on your own. However, if you want a complete understanding of your legal scenario, schedule an appointment with our attorney and we will be transparent with how useful hiring any attorney will be in your case.

What happens after I hire Cornerstone Legal PLLC? Once you have formally retained Cornerstone Legal PLLC, the next steps in your legal process will depend on the specific nature of your case. For estate planning clients, this typically involves reviewing rough drafts of your Wills or Trusts to ensure every detail aligns with your legacy goals. If your matter involves litigation or a contested estate, our team will work closely with you to collect necessary evidence and documentation to build a strong case. For those navigating probate administration, our attorneys handle the complex filing of court documents and state requirements, providing you with regular notifications as we manage the technical legal hurdles on your behalf. Regardless of the case type, our priority is to move your matter toward a successful resolution with efficiency and clear, step-by-step guidance.
What is an Advanced Fee Deposit? (AFD) At Cornerstone Legal PLLC, we utilize an Advanced Fee Deposit to provide financial clarity and security for both the client and the firm throughout the legal process. Unlike a traditional non-refundable retainer, this deposit acts much like a security deposit for a rental; it is held in a dedicated attorney trust account as a surety for your case. These funds remain your property while we work on your matter, ensuring that resources are immediately available to move your case forward without delay. Upon the successful completion of our legal services and the settlement of all final invoices, any remaining balance from your initial deposit is fully refunded to you. This structure provides a transparent, "pay-as-you-go" framework that protects your investment while ensuring your legal team can operate with maximum efficiency.
When should I expect final distributions? Final distributions at the end of a probate matter will be provided to the intended heirs following the close of the case and the filing of the final accounting for the administration of the estate to the courts.
When should I expect a first draft of estate planning documents? We know you’re eager to get your affairs in order! For most clients, our team delivers the first draft within two weeks of our first meeting. If your estate is more "robust" (think complex assets or unique family dynamics), it might take a little longer to ensure every "i" is dotted and "t" is crossed. We’ll always keep you in the loop and discuss any adjusted timelines during your consultation so there are no surprises.
OUR CASE PROCESS
How will we communicate about the status of my case? At Cornerstone Legal PLLC, we believe that consistent and transparent communication is the foundation of a successful legal partnership, and we never want our clients to hesitate when they have a question. Our firm ensures you stay informed through your preferred channel, whether that is by direct phone call, detailed email updates, or scheduled in-office appointments. We prioritize your peace of mind, which is why we maintain an open-door policy where your attorney is readily accessible to provide clarity on your case status. Because we view clear communication as a critical component of effective estate planning, we encourage you to reach out the moment a concern arises—ensuring your legal matters move forward smoothly and without unnecessary delays.

HOW WE HELP
How does Cornerstone Legal PLLC help with probate administration? Navigating the legal aftermath of a loss can be overwhelming, but our local team of experienced attorneys is here to simplify the process. We are well-versed in all forms of probate administration and provide tailored support regardless of your role in the estate. Whether you are a personal representative seeking guidance on your fiduciary duties, a family member who needs us to step in as a neutral third-party administrator, or an heir concerned about the fair distribution of assets, we offer the steady hand you need. Beyond standard administration, our firm also provides robust representation in more complex scenarios, such as litigating the validity of a will or protecting your rights during a contested probate. Our goal is to handle the legal complexities so you can focus on what matters most.
What is different about completing a Small Estate Affidavit? Estates valuing less than $100,000.00 with no real property are able to complete and submit a document called the 'Small Estate Affidavit' which will skip the probate process and offer a direct transfer of those estate assets.
What should I know about Probate and Estate attorneys? An experienced probate attorney serves as your essential guide through the Washington Superior Court system. Because probate is a court-supervised process, it involves submitting specific legal documents for a judge’s review and approval. While our team works diligently to present the strongest possible case and ensure all filings meet the court's strict requirements, it is important to understand that the final decision rests with the judge. Because of this judicial oversight, no attorney can or should guarantee a specific legal outcome. Instead, our role is to navigate the complexities of the law on your behalf, minimizing risks and providing the expert advocacy needed to move the estate toward a successful resolution.
Can Cornerstone Legal PLLC act as a Trustee for clients? Absolutely. Our firm is fully equipped to serve as a neutral, professional trustee to ensure your trust is managed with the highest level of objectivity and legal precision. We can step into this role for trusts that are already in existence or for new trusts that you create alongside our estate planning team. Choosing a professional firm as your trustee provides a layer of protection and continuity, as it removes the emotional burden and potential conflicts of interest that can arise when a family member or friend is tasked with managing complex financial assets. Our priority is to strictly adhere to the terms of your trust, providing reliable administration and peace of mind for both you and your beneficiaries.
Does Cornerstone Legal PLLC handle tax planning? While our firm does not directly provide tax accounting or CPA services, tax efficiency is a cornerstone of every estate plan we draft. We work closely with an established network of community partners, including CPAs and tax specialists, to ensure your documents are fully compliant with current Washington and federal tax laws. For our high-net-worth clients, we take a more direct, collaborative approach by working alongside your local financial advisors to implement sophisticated "tax shields." This partnership allows us to integrate advanced legal structures—such as irrevocable trusts or gifting strategies—with your broader investment goals. By coordinating with your financial team, we ensure that your estate plan is not only legally sound but also optimized to minimize tax exposure and preserve as much of your legacy as possible for your heirs.
